A Quick Word

Welcome to the Spring, 2009 issue of our newsletter. It's been a little while since we've sent out a newsletter, but as interest in our software and services continues to grow, we thought it worthwhile to return to this popular feature. We'll try to keep it interesting and useful. And remember, it's for you, and not for us, so if there's something you would like to see, please let us know at info@geotech.com.

Enviro Software News - Update on Enviro Features

As you may know, Geotech has a very active development program for our Enviro Data and Enviro Spase software. The development efforts focus on improving existing features and adding new ones. These improvements and enhancements are largely based on client feedback. In the Enviro Data database software, we have had an increase recently in clients using our various Department of Defense features, including export of data in the ERPIMS and ERIS formats for the Air Force and Army, respectively. Recently we added a library feature that lets you move your lookup tables (also known as valid value lists) to a separate database file, called a library, where they can be shared between projects. This makes it easier to manage multiple projects that share the same lists. It is also useful for projects, for example in the same state, that share regulatory limits.

Enviro Spase, our GIS tool, has recently been updated with several new features. One of the most interesting is what we call Radar Plots. In the past as we have been discussing our Stiff Diagram feature, clients have said they would like to put their constituents of concern around the outside of the diagram, rather than the major ions. Radar Plots address this. They can be used for multiple parameters, dates, or depths at each location. They are circular diagrams that look like a wind rose or gun sight. The concentrations for each parameter are shown by how far out the points stick. You can also display the regulatory limit for each parameter. This type of display makes it easy to look at the spatial distribution of the constituents across the site. For example, one client says they can use them to track the degradation of petroleum hydrocarbons across their facility.

Free Tip - Creating Labels in Access

It's easy to create labels in Access using the built-in Label Wizard. Here's how:

1.      Open the Access Database Window by pressing the F11 key.

2.      Select Reports from the Objects list and then click the New button to open the New Report form.

3.      Select Label Wizard from the list and then select the table or query from the drop-box which contains the name and address data for your labels. Click OK to open the Label Wizard.

4.      Select the Product number of the label and then click Next.

5.      Edit the Font name, Font weight, Font size, and Text color as needed. You may also check the Italic and Underline boxes, if desired. Click Next.

6.      Select your Name, Address, City, State and Zip fields from the Available fields list.

  • Double-click the First Name and it is added to the Prototype label box. Add a space after the First Name and then double-click the Last Name to add it. Press the Enter key on your keyboard to advance to the next line of your label.

  • Double-click the Address field and press Enter.

  • Double-click the City field, add a comma and a space, double-click the State field, add a space, and then Double-click the Zip field. Click Next.

  • Enter a name for your report and then click the Finish button. The label report is displayed.

Print the labels using the FileàPrint commands from the Menu Bar.
