9/8/11 – Another Enviro Data Success Story |
One of Geotech’s newest Enviro Data users,
Powertech, a uranium mining company headquartered in Denver, sent us the
following email after we followed up with them to see how things were
going: “The 2010C version,
and especially the Crosstab Wizard, is working well for me.
I generated tables for every station in our database in 19
minutes, 41 seconds. This is
a big improvement over the months of time it used to take using Excel.
Give me a few months to finish this phase of data organization,
and then we will need to discuss buying additional Viewer licenses and
training.” Geotech is
continuously improving our Enviro software to make data management
faster and easier for our clients. |
|
9/2/11 – Enviro Data Graphs Save the Day |
The Pueblo of Laguna, one of Geotech’s many Indian
Tribe clients, called our technical support team recently saying that
the EPA requested to see the Tribe’s data in a graphical format and
could we show them how to do this.
With a small amount of instruction, the Tribe created 1,000
graphs in fifteen minutes.
Prior to their purchase of Enviro Data in 2008, the Tribe was making
graphs of their data in Excel and it took them months to create 1,000
graphs. Contrary to this
tedious process, the Tribe was able to send graphs of their data to the
EPA within a day of their request.
Another happy client and another testimony to the speed and
accuracy of Enviro Data. |

8/9/11 – Geotech Hosts Company Party |
Maggie Smith’s Irish Pub and Restaurant was the location of a
delicious and high-spirited dinner for Geotech’s employees, families and
friends. A relatively new restaurant, located just
down the street from Geotech, they regaled us with free appetizers like
Curry Chips and Irish sliders, two-for-one drinks such as Guinness Stout
and Irish whiskey, and Irish delicacies like Bangers and Mash, and Fish
and Chips. The children enjoyed the digital juke box,
while the adults relaxed and enjoyed chatting.
Everyone enjoyed eating. A great time was had
by all, and all agreed to do it again next year. |

8/3/11 – Enviro software Users Thrilled with Technical Support/Training |
Again in August, Geotech provided many of its clients with additional technical support and training. Geotech excels over its competitors by always being available to walk a new client through a software feature they’ve never used before, or help an established client train a new employee on our Enviro software. This month, we provided Enviro software support and training to three of the largest environmental consulting and data quality companies in the U.S. One of these companies is setting up our software system for 200 of their employees. Two of Geotech’s Indian tribe clients, one in New Mexico and one in New York, received software support and data loading assistance. All of these clients were thrilled with the depth of knowledge, availability, and quick response of the Geotech technical team. |

7/30/11 – Uranium company purchases Enviro software |
Earlier this month while on a road trip to Wyoming,
Dave Rich, Geotech’s president paid a visit to an up-and-coming uranium
company that was looking for a software solution to help them manage
their data. After Dave’s
visit, this company looked at several software options, including
Geotech’s, for handling their data and decided that the Enviro software
would best suit their specific technical needs.
Technical training for this new client will be held at Geotech’s
office later this month. We are proud to welcome this company to the
Enviro family of users. |

7/21/11 – Another Longtime Happy Enviro User Found |
An Enviro Data user that purchased our software back in 2002, called Geotech today saying he had just bought a new laptop with Windows 7 and needed to upgrade his Enviro software. He had been successfully using version 1.5c for nine years! Geotech told him that for the cost of a reinstatement fee plus maintenance, we would update his two databases to Enviro Data 2010, send him the latest version of the software, and provide him with technical support and software upgrades. Needless to say, he agreed. A glowing testimony to the ease of use and reliability of our software, and the outstanding support of the Geotech team! |
|
7/15/11 – Another Indian Tribe Purchases the Enviro Software |
One of the largest Indian reservations in the United States purchased Geotech's Enviro software this month. After attending a presentation given by Dr. Rich at the Field Days hosted by our friends Geotech Environmental Equipment, one of the tribal members was very interested in using our software to help the tribe manage their environmetal issues, which include rural, urban and industrial impacts. Geotech did an on-site presentation and they bought a multi-user system on the spot! Their technical users will attend a software training next month at Geotech's Denver office. |
|
7/12 – 7/13/11 – New Client Training in Wyoming |
Dave Rich, Geotech’s president, made a road trip to
Wyoming this month, to visit current and prospective clients.
His first stop was Gillette, WY, where he did Enviro software
training for a client that produces subbituminous coal.
Dave did a two-day training for six employees at this location.
With over 1,500 employees, this company is widely recognized for
exemplary performance in its safety and environmental programs.
Geotech is proud that they have chosen the Enviro software to
help them maintain their excellent reputation.
Dave’s second stop of his trip was a visit to a Lab to discuss
possible cooperation in helping each other’s clients.
Dave’s final stop on this trip was a visit to a rapidly growing
uranium company that was interested in using the Enviro software.
Dave did a demo of the software for their technical team, and
impressed them with how well the Enviro software would work with the
data they produced for the U.S. nuclear power industry. |

7/8/11 – Oake Ridge Work Continues |
As Oak Ridge National Labs in Tennessee proceeds with their Enviro Data implementation, they are finding additional ways that it can help them manage their biological data, including morphological, blood, and chemical information on biological specimens, as well as species population census data. Geotech is working with ORNL staff to provide technology to streamline their data capture and entry process prior to importing the data into Enviro Data. |
|
7/3/11 – Number of Maintenance Renewals Continues
to Rise |
Once again this month, a large number of our Enviro
software clients showed their satisfaction with our software by renewing
their maintenance. Some
renewals are from new clients, but many are from clients of ten or more
years. We get comments like,
“Thank you for always being there when we call, and for helping us when
we’re stuck”, and “We appreciate that you let us use some of our support
hours for technical training over the phone”.
At Geotech, our mission is to help our clients manage their data
more efficiently and profitably. |

|
6/21/11 – New Type of Enviro software Client |
During the 25 years of Geotech’s history, most of our clients have been companies that buy the Enviro software for their employees to use on company projects. This month we learned that individuals within companies are realizing that the Enviro software is more than just a company solution. This month we sold our software to someone who works for a large company that was not ready to purchase our software, so the individual bought the software with his own money and will use it on his company’s project. After seeing how our software works, and trying it for himself, he realized that he, and his project, would be far more successful if he used Enviro Data, than if he didn’t. He hopes his company will see the excellent results of his work and reimburse him for the software or buy the software themselves, but if not, he says his final work product will always be better because of the software, and that’s enough for him. |
|
6/17/11 – Additional Work for Oak Ridge National Lab |
Oak Ridge National Lab has once again contracted with Geotech to make more significant enhancements in our Enviro software to accommodate their biological data. ORNL has a long and proud history of managing their environmental data, and a combination of the robust Enviro Data structure with their previously designed structure for taxonomy, tissue samples, and biocensus data, will make a very strong solution for anyone needing to work with biological data. |
|
6/14/11 – Mike Wiley “On the Mend” |
The “Coyote”, as many of Mike’s friends refer to him, has been working very hard the last few months, on gaining his strength back, in preparation for moving back into his own home at the end of July. He’s enjoying all the cards, calls and visits he’s receiving from his friends and work associates, and is looking forward to using his GIS skills to continue improving Geotech’s Enviro Spase product. It certainly beats blood pressure cuffs, midnight meds, and doctor’s visits. We’re pulling for you, Mike! |
|
6/13/11 – Maintenance Renewals a Testimony to Great Software and Service |
Geotech’s Enviro software maintenance renewals are increasing every year, with nine renewals this month alone, many for multiple licenses. At Geotech, we not only want you to have the best environmental data management software on the market, but we develop a working relationship with all of our clients by providing them with individualized technical support, frequent software upgrades, and enhancements customized to their individual needs. All of this personalized service is included in every maintenance renewal we sell. It’s no wonder our Enviro maintenance renewals grow larger every year. |
|
6/10/11 - Geotech Helps Clients Overcome Data Hurdles |
We have found that in the process of helping some of our clients get Enviro Data going, that they often face difficult challenges in working with their existing data, and may have other problems as well. They may be moving data from a competing product like Terrabase or EQuIS, an outdated in-house system, or have data in spreadsheets with challenging layouts. While having Geotech provide training on the use of the Enviro software can be a big help, we have found an additional method that has really helped. We arrange with the client to have regular meetings, usually every week or two for a while, and we move them along in the process in each meeting. One client, a big-city office of a large consulting company, had a combination of data conversion problems, staff turnover, and a very complicated project. Over a period of several months we met regularly via phone and WebEx, and they now have most of their data converted and the software configured to suit their project needs. |
|
6/9/11 – More New Enviro Data Features |
At Geotech, we are always listening to our clients’ needs, and adding features that make their data management projects easier, faster and more accurate. This month, we added three new features to Enviro Data: Florida ADaPT, and EPA WQX imports and exports, and an EQuIS export format. If you have any features that you would like to see added to the Enviro software, please email us at support@geotech.com, and let us know what they are. We’re building our software to better fit your needs! |
|
6/6/11 – Geotech trains another new client on Enviro Dat a |
Geotech’s senior programmer, Russ Wendell, traveled to Virginia in June to train one of our new clients. This client is an environmental consulting company with three offices on the east coast. They specialize in environmental quality assurance, chemistry, geosciences, environmental data management, risk assessment, and recently joined the Marcellus Shale Coalition. Geotech is thrilled to welcome this client into the Enviro Data users family. |
|

| 2/15/11 - Geotech Expands Activity and Clients in Alternative Energy |
Alternative energy sources can be a great contributor to the energy economy. Geotech has been involved in one aspect of this, coalbed methane. With this energy source, wells are drilled into subsurface coal seams, and the natural gas is produced. With the gas production often comes a lot of water, and there is a concern whether the drilling might impact nearby water supply wells. For one client, a major multinational oil and gas company operating in Southwest Colorado, Geotech provided our Enviro Data and Enviro Spase software to manage the water quality data from the neighbor’s water wells, both before and after the gas wells were drilled. Geotech then worked with the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission to make it easy for the client to submit their data to the state. In another coalbed methane area, the Power River Basin of northeastern Wyoming, clients use Enviro Data to manage and map their data and create reports for the state. One well-known coalbed methane consulting company has been using Enviro Data with a SQL Server back-end to manage their clients’ water data for over ten years, and two of the largest operators in the basin depend on Enviro Data to manage their lab and flow data and create files in the specialized format, called eDMR2, required by the state. |
| 1/17/11 - Geotech Expands Relationship with CO-EXist |
Geotech is continuing its ongoing partnership with CO-EXist, a Colorado organization for the Export of Innovative and Sustainable Technologies in the environmental industry. In the next few months, CO-EXist will be hosting meetings in Colorado between environmental companies from Mexico and Colorado. Geotech’s software was well-received at the Green Expo in Mexico last fall, and plans to attend this CO-EXist winter meeting to further expand our product into the Mexican market. Geotech is also discussing plans to attend the CIEPEC 2011 Expo and Conference in China this summer, sponsored by CO-EXist. |
| 12/31/10 - Geotech Releases Enviro Data 2010 A |
Geotech is pleased to announce a new version of Enviro Data, called 2010 A. It has many new features relative to previous releases. Some of the big ones are a greatly expanded Field Tool that can create container labels and chains of custody, revised Validation that can now obtain and use control limits from our updated lab file format, a system for managing permit data, greatly expanded user-defined imports and exports, better tools for cleaning up problem data, several new and enhanced reports and exports, additional data formatting options for special situations such as very small and very large numbers, new or updated interfaces to RockWorks, ERPIMS, ADR, ADaPT, eDMR2, Excel, and much more. Please contact us if you would like more information, or a presentation on the new features. |
| 11/1/10 - Geotech Continues to Grow Internationally |
For years now, Geotech has been helping countries around the world increase efficiency and save costs on their data management projects. With businesses ranging from consulting firms to paper mills, Enviro Data has been able to overcome international variances with ease. This can prove tricky sometimes, as other countries do not necessarily manage or display their data in the same way as the US does. The most recent addition to our international clients is an environmental consulting company in Argentina. We have been working with them integrating Spanish changes into our software and might soon begin converting Enviro Data to a “user friendly” Spanish version. We are also talking with companies in Mexico City about setting up resellers there, and the usage of Enviro Data in the Mexican market. We also hope to attend the CIEPEC Trade Show this year in Beijing, to learn more about the Asian market and possibly help them with their water remediation problems. With an ever expanding effort to reach companies around the world, Geotech is committed to cleaning up the environment one project at a time. |
| 10/11/10 - Geotech Attends UMASS Conference in Amherst (AEHS) |
Geotech Computer Systems, Inc. once again attended the Soils, Sediments, Water and Energy conference from October 18th – 21st at the University of Massachusetts. Mike Rich, Geotech’s Sales Director, shared a booth with Geotech Environmental Equipment. A few of the exciting Presentation and Workshop titles this year included: “Sustainable Remediation: What is it and how is it applied?” and “In Situ Chemical Reduction for Groundwater Chromium Stabilization”. Mike met with many great people at the conference, which opened doors to many opportunities for Enviro software implementations and strategic partnerships. We are pleased that many of the attendees have a need for Enviro Data, and we are working with them to get it going. |
| 9/27/10 - Geotech Attends the Green Expo in Mexico City |
For the first time, Geotech Computer Systems, Inc. attended the Renewable Energy Conference in Mexico City, Mexico. Organized by CO-EXist, Colorado Export of Innovative & Sustainable Technologies, this trade show and private meetings with Mexican technology companies, was an excellent way to introduce our Enviro software and services to them. Held at the World Trade Center, this conference had over 6,000 attendees of private sector, public sector, consulting companies, and government agencies. The Green Expo provided much information on the Mexican market and allowed Geotech to emerge as one of the top database companies to enter the environmental market in Mexico. Geotech had many discussions with potential distributors as they recognize that their environmental industry needs fresh tools, and Geotech can fill this technology need. We are excited that the ongoing conversations with the five technology companies Geotech did presentations for, will allow us to establish our presence in the emerging Mexican environmental market. |
| 9/23/10 - Oil spill work continues |
Emergency Response work on the oil spill monitoring project continued throughout the month of September. All three of Geotech’s consultants worked many late nights during this month, creating reports and maps for the EPA. Despite the three-week-on, one-week-off rotation, the close quarters and rigorous schedule is challenging for all the consultants involved. Despite this, Geotech’s consultants are grateful to have gained the first-hand knowledge of working on an Emergency Response project. While on-site clean-up of this spill is still going on, the project manager is hopeful that work will be completed in October. |
| 9/20/10 - Geotech Cooperates with National Laboratory |
A National Laboratory recently purchased Enviro Data, and is working with Geotech to expand the software to more comprehensively handle biological data. While Enviro Data has always satisfactorily handled tissue and other related data, the scientists at the lab want to better associate samples with a structured taxonomic system that they have developed over the years. Once this capability is integrated into Enviro Data, users will be able to select data using genus, species, and other taxonomic data. |
| 8/20/10 - Geotech expands services into Emergency Response projects |
In August, Geotech received a call from an Emergency Response company project manager, who said that he had read Dr. Dave’s book on Environmental Database Management, and thought of Geotech when he needed to hire consultants for his oil spill monitoring project. Geotech subcontracted out three of its top consultants to help with the database management and mapping pieces of this project. Two of our consultants worked on entering data, writing reports, and creating presentations for the EPA, while the third consultant, a GIS specialist, created maps. The Emergency Response company was thrilled with the level of technical expertise that our consultants provided to them, and was impressed with the professionalism and speed with which Geotech responded to their needs. Geotech looks forward to working with this, and other Emergency Response companies in the future. |
| 8/17/10 - Geotech Helping EPA and Others with Data Display Needs |
Geotech has provided our Enviro Data and Enviro Spase software to EPA Region 8 to display data for the East Helena Superfund/RCRA site, formerly owned by ASARCO. The database was created by a long-time Enviro Data client, and is provided on a regular basis to EPA project managers, a regulator with the State of Montana, and other interested parties. The EPA PMs and others can then retrieve data and create displays as they need. They are making reports, graphs, and GIS maps to better understand the project, make better informed decisions, and provide key information to the public. |
| 6/25/10 - Geotech Attends GEE's Field Days |

| 6/11/10 - New EQuIS Converter |
As the popularity of Geotech's Enviro software continues to grow, our clients are expressing a growing need to convert data from other database systems into Enviro Data. To help with this, we have created a new tool to convert database files from the EQuIS format to Enviro Data format, similar to a Geotech tool written for GISKey conversions several years ago. Combined with special pricing for users switching to Enviro Data from a competing product (our "Amnesty Program"), this new tool makes it even easier to switch. By switching, you will put Enviro Data's powerful features, ease of use, and efficient workflow to work for you at a surprisingly reasonable cost. |
| 6/2/10 - Enviro Success Story - Pace and Hull |
Pace Analytical, the nation's second largest laboratory chain, and Hull Environmental, a well-respected Ohio-based development, engineering and environmental company and Enviro software client, recently documented the great benefits that can be obtained by implementing an efficient data management system, lowering the total cost of ownership of their environmental data from investigation to closure, with cost reductions of 20 to 50% versus Hull's old system. This success story was published in the May 2010 edition of Pace's newsletter. You can read this article on Pace's web site at http://www.pacelabs.com/about-us/newsletter/may-2010/5.html. |
| 5/11/10 - Enviro Software Success Story - County Water Quality Department |
Geotech recently received this note from a happy customer. We wanted to share it with you. "My agency is tasked with monitoring surface and ground water in our County. Our monitoring results are required to be submitted to regulatory agencies and are made public via a web mapping site. We have used Geotech Computer Systems' off-the-shelf environmental software to manage our data for almost 10 years. I have found it essential for handling monitoring results and providing professional looking reports. Their Enviro Data database and Enviro Spase GIS interface are tools that easily allow us to import new analytical results, prepare quick and readily understandable reports, prepare maps, and to upload these results to regulatory agencies. Geotech’s programs integrate closely with other vendor’s programs including Surfer for preparing contour maps, ArcGIS for GIS applications and our laboratory’s information management system (LIMS). Their programs are easy to understand and use, yet powerful. It only takes a few minutes to teach new users to produce complex graphs and tables. When issues arise, as they do with all software, Geotech’s technical support is always available and quick to help, going out of their way to provide solutions. It would be difficult to manage our monitoring program without Geotech Computer Systems." Let Geotech turn you into our next Success Story. | 5/3/10 - Mohawk Tribe Adopts Enviro Data |
The St. Regis Mohawk Tribe consists of approximately 10,000 people, and they are located in northern-most New York State, in the town of Akwesasne. The Mohawk Territory is bisected by the United States-Canada border, and the reservation is situated next to a Superfund site highly contaminated with toxic chemicals. Consequently, the tribe has one of the most advanced environment divisions of any tribe in the U.S. The Mohawk tribe recently purchased Geotech’s Enviro Data software to help them manage and display the data retrieved from this Superfund site. Dave Rich, President of Geotech Computer Systems, Inc., visited the tribe in early May and trained them on the use of Enviro Data. |
| 3/14/10 - Business Development Abounds At Winter Trade Shows |
Geotech attended two more trade shows at the end of this year’s first quarter: the first was the Society for Mining, Metallurgy, and Exploration, Inc., SME in Phoenix, AZ. This year’s show theme was “Celebrating 100 years of Mining Research”, and had over 400 exhibitors. Some of this year’s exhibitors were AMEC, ARCADIS, Inc., CH2M Hill, Inc., Newmont Mining Corp, and many others. The second show was the Association for Environmental Health and Sciences, AEHS, in San Diego, CA. This was their 20th Annual International Conference, and it drew 500-600 participants. AEHS focuses on environmental issues related to soil, sediment, water, and energy, and attracts environmental professionals who are concerned with developing creative, cost-effective assessments and solutions that can withstand the demands of regulatory requirements. |

| 1/18/10 - 2010 Begins With More New Client Training |
In January, Dave Rich, President of Geotech Computer Systems, Inc., conducted a training session for new environmental staff at Pueblo of Laguna, a current Geotech client. Six staffers attended, and topics such as how to enter site names, analytic methods, and station locations were discussed. It was reported to Dave by the attendees that the two-day session was very informative and useful and they were now ready to get up and running with Enviro Data. In February, Geotech provided training to a new environmental engineering client, with an office in Seattle, WA, that manages and provides technical support for natural resource restoration, remediation, environmental protection, waste management, and regulatory compliance to its clients. Geotech created an Enviro Data map display enhancement for this client, which has been incorporated into the latest version of Enviro Data (see above). |
