Relational Management and Display of Site Environmental Data
by Dr. David W. Rich

Dave's new book has hit the shelves!  Written by a recognized expert and software author with over 25 years of industry experience, Relational Management and Display of Site Environmental Data begins with an overview of site data management concepts, and then progresses through relational data management theory, the design of the database tool, and implementing a data management system. It includes detailed information on data output including mapping and GIS applications, practical suggestions about working with laboratories, and concludes with pitfalls, horror stories, and successes in site data management. Current topics such as Internet data delivery and eXtensible Markup Language are also covered.

New Features Version G1.6

Here are the new features in Enviro Data Version G1.6

  • Upgraded Map Display Tool - The new map now works correctly in Vista and Windows 7. We have added a feature to double-click on a station on the  map to display additional station data. Also, we now support a much longer list of vector map and image map formats.

  • Most Recent Samples - You can now select all of your most recent samples using the Select Data form by simply choosing Most Recent from the Sample group pulldown list. Additional criteria may also be applied to further refine the data selection.

New Features

Version F1.5

Here are the new features in Enviro Data Version F1.5.

  • Field Tool - This feature expands on the existing Sample Events capability, adding more detailed specifications for plans and events, including locations to be sampled, QC samples, and field and laboratory parameters and methods. You can create a file for field data entry, print a chain of custody for an event, and run a Sample Completeness report, among other things.

  • Viewer Only - This version eliminates the Main Menu and Editor programs. The Viewer program is modified in several ways to suite this role including the removal of all capability for the user to manipulate tables and queries. This allows the user to view the data but not to modify it.

  • Permit Management - Enviro Data now has a feature to store permit information, including which locations are part of which permit, and regulatory limits (also called target levels or MCLs) by permit and permit option. The permit information may be printed in the Permit report.

  • Validation Module - We have added many enhancements to the existing Validation Module, giving you much more flexibility in analyzing data, while simplifying project setup and improving the workflow.

  • New Import and Export Formats - We have added a number of new import and export formats.

  • Imports: YSI Sonde, ADR Automated Data Review, Field File Excel, Gas Data Excel.

  • Exports: Wyoming eDMR2, ADR Automated Data Review.

  • New Duplicate Removal Tools - New duplicate removal tools have been added to remove duplicated stations and parameters, or rename them. These tools move data from the incorrectly duplicated items to the correct item, and remove the duplicate. This is great where data has been imported to stations and parameters that are spelled slightly differently than the correct spelling. These features join an existing feature to remove duplicated samples and analyses.

  • Owners Tab on Stations Form - There is now a tab on the Stations Form for ownership information, such as for a residence or domestic water well. Each owner record can have two owner names, and there can be multiple owner records. Stations can now be assigned an order, which is used in some of the output options.

  • Station Group Color Picker - The Station Group List editing form now lets you visually select the color to be displayed for the group.

Free
Access
Utilities

Geotech Computer Systems, Inc. has created two free utilities, TableInfo and CompareDB, for working with Access databases. These utilties were featured in articles in Access Office VB Advisor magazine. TableInfo contains a form that you can put in your Access database to display the properties of the tables in that database. CompareDB compares the modification dates of the objects in two databases to help you figure out which has the most recent content. Please download them and use them, with our compliments.
